Social Security

The Social Security Number (SSN) is unique to each individual and is used to report earnings, withhold Social Security tax and Medicare tax. Social Security withholdings go into a government managed retirement fund and every social security number holder becomes eligible for certain benefits. Medicare is the medical insurance for low-income individuals and senior citizens.
How to get a SSN number?
Step 1: Complete the application for a social security card (pdf download)
Step 2: Provide original documentation proving your immigration status, work eligibility, age and identity
Step 3: Take your completed application and documents to your local social security office.
